According to a source in the Russian Defense Ministry, the 'flying ace' has been identified as 45-year-old veteran pilot who had been performing maneuvers with his co-pilot as part of a training exercise. The supersonic aircraft was flying at subsonic speed at the time. (That's why you can hear the engines before he flies over the car.) When the Sukhoi SU-24 is flying supersonic, its wings are swept back (to increase speed by decreasing drag).
