Bicycle World Speed Record
Dutch cyclist Sebastiaan Bowier pedalled his way into the record books, hitting more than 83 mph (133 km/h) as he sped through the Nevada desert.
The 23-year-old beat the previous bicycle speed record set by Canadian Sam Whittingham at the same location in 2009 by just 0.6kmh (0.37mph).
The high-tech recumbent bike VeloX3 developed by students from Delft University of Technology and University of Amsterdam reached that speed on a timed 220-yard stretch of straight road with a 5-mile run-up.
