After World War I, Germany was no longer allowed to have powered aircrafts. As a result, many aircraft engines were available. These engines were installed on old undercarriages and used to perform races. To follow this tradition, German racing enthusiasts mounted a 12-cylinder BMW aircraft engine (47 liters - 750 horsepowers @ 1500 rpm) on a LaFrance frame with chain-drive.
