Chang'e & Jade Rabbit achieved lunar orbit on 6 December 2013 and landed on 14 December 2013, becoming the first object to soft-land on the Moon since the USSR landed the Luna 24 spacecraft on the Moon in 1976.
Chang'e is the name of the Chinese goddess of the Moon.  Unlike many lunar deities in other cultures who personify the Moon, Chang'e lives on the Moon. In modern times, Chang'e has been the namesake of China's lunar exploration program.
