This animation named after Rang-tan, the orangutan featured in the story, shows what it might feel like for a young child to experience the affects of deforestation which orangutans suffer at the hands of palm oil production.  The Rang-tan animation was originally created by Greenpeace and released earlier in August 2018 alongside a petition to challenge large global corporations like Nestlé and Unilever to stop using palm oil in their products.  In true sustainable fashion, Iceland is repurposing this Greenpeace animation as their Christmas ad.   “Iceland made the decision to demonstrate to the food and retail industries that it is possible to reduce the demand for palm oil until the industry stops destroying the rainforests by seeking alternative ingredients.  Growing demand for palm oil for use in food products, cosmetics and biodiesel is devastating tropical rainforests across South East Asia.  Expanding palm oil and wood pulp plantations are the biggest driver of deforestation, many species are being threatened with extinction, including the orangutan, already critically endangered.”
