ESA's Rosetta spacecraft was launched in March 2004 and has chased down the comet for 10 years, reaching it on 6 August 2014.
It travelled 6.4 billion km (four billion miles) to reach the comet, which is more than four billion years old, measures about 3 x 2 miles (5 by 3 km) and moves through space at a speed of 84,000 mph (135,000 km/h).
