This rhino has been nursed and kept as pet by the adjacent local army camp since it was rescued as baby. He often wanders in the area and never harms the people or damages any property. This rhino is exceptional. Not all are this friendly. This rhino is one of only 752 rhinos currently found in Nepal. The creature was pretty close to extinction in the last century, but with these 752 actually being an increase from 645 in 2015, this is a conservation success story with its amazing recovery thus far. Rhinos can run up to 55 km/hr (34 mph) and they are also excellent swimmers. Their lifespan is 35-50 years. They have a herbivorous diet and weigh 1,300 to 2,000 pounds.
