For the past 27 years, Dutch artist Theo Jansen has devoted himself to constructing animals that can walk on the beach . Theo Jansen (born 1948) is a Dutch artist. In 1990, he began building large mechanisms out of PVC that are able to move on their own, powered only by the wind, known as Strandbeest (which means “beach animals” in Dutch).
