Explanation:  Velké Hincovo pleso is the biggest and deepest mountain lake of glacial origin in the High Tatras, Slovakia.  Its surface remains frozen for around 270 days per year.  Because the water cools and freezes over a longer duration of time, it has time to reject impurities such as trapped gases, organic material and other minerals as it crystallizes.  This brings about a more homogenous mixture and less defects in the crystal lattice which results in clear, transparent ice.   Map
