Flashdance is a 1983 romantic drama dance film starring Jennifer Beals as a passionate young dancer who aspires to become a professional ballerina, alongside Michael Nouri playing her boyfriend and the owner of the steel mill where she works by day in Pittsburgh.    The song "Flashdance... What a Feeling" performed by Irene Car, won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, as well as a Golden Globe and numerous other awards.   It also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1983.   The song is used in the opening title sequence of the film, and is the music Alex uses in her dance audition routine at the end of the film.
