Definitions:  Kuiper Belt - a disk-shaped region past the orbit of Neptune extending roughly from 30 to 50 AU (Astronomical Units) from the Sun containing many small icy bodies.  It is now considered to be the source of the short-period comets.  The Oort Cloud is a shell of icy objects that lie beyond the Kuiper Belt.  It is roughly spherical, and is thought to be the origin of most of the long-period comets that have been observed.   Astronomical Unit: a unit of length, roughly the distance from Earth to the Sun.
